Celebrating milestones: a remarkable year for Xiretsa
2024 has been a transformative year for Xiretsa, filled with exciting milestones and promising opportunities. As we continue to tackle the global challenge of antimicrobial resistance (AMR), we would like to share some of the major advancements we have achieved.
Moving into the UCSB CNSI Technology Incubator
In June, Xiretsa officially moved into the CNSI Technology Incubator at UC Santa Barbara. This cutting-edge facility has provided us with the infrastructure and collaborative environment to accelerate our research and development efforts.
NIH SBIR
This year also marked the start of our NIH Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) grant (R43AI186753), a pivotal milestone that underscores the promise of Xiretsa’s work.
Local angel investors backing Xiretsa
We are thrilled to have received $75,000 in investments from three local Santa Barbara angel investors. This support was catalyzed, in part, by INCATE’s press release announcing Xiretsa’s Stage 2 funding. This funding not only validates the work we are doing but also strengthens our foundation for growth.
Engaging at AMR Congress
It was a pleasure to meet Peter Seiler (INCATE Management team) at the AMR Congress that took place in September in Philadelphia, and speak on his panel about the future of combating antimicrobial resistance. Events like these are invaluable for exchanging ideas, building connections, and staying at the forefront of AMR innovation.
Welcoming Dr. Cole Gannett
We are happy to announce that Dr. Cole Gannett has joined Xiretsa as our first full-time employee. Dr. Gannett recently earned his PhD from Virginia Tech, where he focused on derivatives of blasticidin S as broad-spectrum antibiotics. With six years of industry experience prior to graduate school, Dr. Gannett brings a wealth of expertise to our team.
Growing the Xiretsa Family
Xiretsa also welcomed three incredible undergraduate interns through the CNSI Tech Incubator PROPEL Program. Their contributions in the lab have been invaluable, and we hope this experience inspires them to pursue careers addressing AMR.
These advancements wouldn’t have been possible without the guidance, funding, and support from INCATE. Your belief in our mission has been a catalyst for our progress, and we are deeply grateful.
Thank you for being part of our journey!
